Hurricane season runs from June 1 - November 30.

Because of its location, Georgia is vulnerable to severe tropical storms forming in both the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico.


Did You Know?
Hurricane
Coastal areas are subject to both high winds and deadly
storm surge.

Inland areas are also to vulnerable to high winds, as well as severe weather spawned by hurricanes, such as tornadoes.

A hurricane watch is issued when a hurricane may strike an area within 24-36 hours.

A hurricane warning is issued when a hurricane is expected to strike within 24 hours.

What To Do...
Monitor tropical weather advisories on radio/ TV or
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) weather radio.

Have a three day supply of nonperishable food and a
"disaster kit" with spare clothing, prescription drugs,  flashlights, radio, batteries, credit cards, and extra cash.

Fill vehicles' gas tanks.

Shutter windows and tie down or bring in objects, such as lawn furniture and grills.
